Termite Reticulation System

Install and Refilling

Pro Pest Control Canberra provides reticulation systems all over the city. If you need to install a termite barrier to keep termites off your property without disturbing the landscape, then you have come to the right place. Our reticulation system is safe and easy to install and manage.

Chemical termite barriers are functional for keeping termites out of a property or perimeter of a home. However, there are instances where homeowners don’t want to drill or disturb certain parts of their properties like pavers, tiles, etc. In this case, we use a termite reticulation system.

What is a termite reticulation system?

A Termite reticulation system provides an ultimate solution to the ongoing replenishment of the soil around a building. For a normal chemical barrier, we usually apply Termidor to the soil along where termites are located. However, after a few years, we may need to come back and map out new places where termites have been spotted to ensure the best protection for your home. This process is usually time-consuming.

A reticulation system is a network of hoses buried into a trench. The strong and flexible hose is evenly spaced with holes at approximately 200 mm intervals for distributing chemicals into the soil. This way, we can easily replenish the termite barrier more efficiently and in a less disruptive way. The reticulation pipe is sturdy enough to deliver termiticide to the soil without falling apart.

How does a reticulation system work?

The reticulation system is just like the chemical barriers we apply to the soil with a few differences. Unlike a normal chemical application, the reticulation system helps us to:

  • Accurately pass chemicals along termite paths
  • Reduce the pain of labour during application and re-application
  • Ensure equal termiticide distribution in the soil

Each hose has a stop end and fill point. The entire pipe can measure up to 10 meters in length. To use, we will trench around the perimeter of your home and chemically treat the footings of the slab. Then, we backfill the soil up to a point of approximately 50-100 mm below the finishing level.

Our technicians will then install the reticulation hose in the remaining soil and connect it to a high-powered chemical pump. The machine pumps chemicals at high pressure through the hose. Since the pipe has holes, the chemical is evenly distributed throughout the soil.

How a reticulation system is refilled

We recommend that you retreat from the chemical barriers every five years. When we come back to refill the system, we simply connect the pipe to our pump and distribute the chemical at high pressure. By implication, we don’t need to disturb the grass, pavers, and landscaping. The process also saves costs and is less labour intensive.

The reticulation system decreases exposure to the chemical. We cover the trench after installation and treatment. As a result, kids and pets can play safely around the installation. Also, the process does not disrupt the environment as plants can grow at the site of installation.
