Termite Baiting System Canberra

Termite Baits By Sentricon, Exterra and Trelona

Monitor and guarantee the best protection for your home with termite baits. Termite baiting systems are detection and treatment methods we use to control termites. The stations detect termite activity around the building or other parts of the properties where we suspect termite activity. After detecting termite presence, we use termite baits to eliminate them, whether inside or outside the property.

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we use Sentrion, Exterra, and Trelona termite baiting stations.

Sentricon® | The No. 1 Bait System for Termite Control

Sentricon

Sentricon termite bait station is a standalone termite solution for controlling termites. It is scientifically designed to eliminate subterranean termite colonies without drilling into your home’s foundation. This environmentally-safe termite treatment reduces installation costs.

We install Sentricon around the perimeter of a home, typically about 20 feet apart for treating underlying termite issues and ongoing prevention. After placing the stations in the ground, we only leave the service cover visible. This makes it okay for kids to play near the station since it requires a special key to open the cover.

The active ingredient in Sentricon is not systemic. In other words, plants won’t absorb it, and the potential for leaching is also low. The original Sentricon is the only termite product awarded the EPA’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Away for its environmentally-responsible chemistry. It is also backed by more than 60 scientific and 30 independent research studies.

Trelona

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we also use the Trelona ATBS Annual Bait station for controlling termites. The bait station combines the most advanced termite bait and the latest research in termite behaviour to encourage station interception and feeding. The bait station is discrete, sturdy, and works as both an active and monitoring system.

Trelona has an advanced bait matrix that contains revolutionary termite bait technology that makes it palatable to termites. The system is designed to work with the Termidor range of products and requires less bait for complete colony elimination.

The unique bait station holds up to 248 grams of bait and encourages feeding. It also requires servicing every 2-6 months and costs between $2000-$4,000.

Exterra

Exterra is another environmentally-friendly termite colony elimination system. The bait station utilizes closed and locked monitoring systems with a termite bait less toxic than table salts. The stations are also non-toxic and are safe to handle for humans.

The first step to using Exterra is to install it in the ground around your property where termites are likely to forage for food. More than use in the ground, Exterra is also available in above-ground designs for use inside the home. In essence, you can choose between in-ground and above-ground stations to fit use in different environments.

Exterra creates a complete termite interception zone around your home and property.

EXTERRA Termite Bait Stations

How they work

The bait station houses a hollow plastic cylinder with slits along the sides. They look like vented cylindrical tubing and are approximately 30cm long. Termites tunnel in and out of the perforated tube to return to their nest after eating from the bait. In the process, they leave scents that other termites can trace to the bait station.

Each station comes with a lockable cap that contains small ventilation grills at the top. We then insert them into the ground with the cover flush within the soil surface. We place bait stations 20 feet apart from them in places where they can’t obstruct within the yard or a visual eyesore.

What makes bait stations highly effective is the station’s design and bait. We load the bait with cellulose that attracts termites to the station. This distracts termites from the house and focuses on the bait station as the only food source. After eating, they would escape from the station through the perforated roles and return to the colony with the food.

But we don’t only serve bait to termites. We mix the bait with slow-acting termiticide. At Pro Pest Control, we use Termidor as the termiticide for bait stations. The termiticide uses a unique transfer effect, and termites spread the virus to one another by contact.

Termidor contains an insect growth inhibitor that destroys the insect’s ability to moult. It also weakens their exoskeletons and softens their mandibles. As a result, they won’t be able to chew timber. The process will continue until the whole colony is affected, and they all eventually die off.

Bait station monitoring

Termite bait systems can last for up to 10 years. However, when termites continuously feed on the bait station, they will exhaust the bait. To make sure they don’t run out of food or turn their attention to your house, we need to continuously monitor the station. Our inspection makes sure we are available to replenish the bait and take immediate action to encourage feeding.
