Termite Inspections Canberra

The Pest Control Professionals

Over the last 20 years, Pro Pest Control has performed termite inspections all over Canberra. Our team of expert inspectors can help you detect termite infestation early and prevent a considerable amount of damage to your residential or commercial property.

A pest inspection is crucial if you already own a property or want to buy one. A termite inspection, if rightly performed, will identify any signs of termite or similar timber pest. This is why the Australian government mandates a termite inspection before buying a new property. For homeowners, you need to inspect your structure at least once every year, depending on the level of termite risk.

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we follow the Australian Standards AS 3660.2-2200 for all inspections. For business facilities, our inspections won’t disrupt your normal operations and promise absolute discreteness. Our methods are also safe around humans, pets, and the environment.

Who are they for?

  • Residential homeowners
  • Commercial property owners
  • Potential house buyers
  • Government agencies

There are two types of homes and property structures in Canberra – already infested properties and properties waiting to be infested. Did you know that 1 in 3 homes will succumb to termite infestation throughout their lifetime? Termite inspection provides a way to detect termite activities before they progress into massive structural damage.

The Australian government recommends at least one termite inspection in a year. However, if you live in an area with a considerably high risk of termite infection, you may need more than one inspection in a year.

Termite damages cost homeowners an average of $10,000. Interestingly, home insurance does not cover damages caused by termites. Why? Because the damage is preventable. At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we use our termite inspection procedures to protect all property types from termite attacks.

Areas we inspect

Our team will visually inspect the exterior and interior of a building or home. It covers areas beneath the house, accessible roof cavities, and subfloors – all cool, dark, and damp areas where termites thrive. Our visual inspection will also cover floor connections, plumbing, and small holes that termites can use as entry points. We pay careful attention to the foundations and walls on the inside of your home.

  • External: backyard landscaping, soil areas, under the house, dead trees and stumps, garden beds, beams and trusses, roofing battens, skylights and vents, guttering and down pipping.
  • Internal: Ceilings, roof voids, inside walls, floors, skylights ventilation, architraves, timber cabinets, floorboard, and door jambs.

Tools we use

  • Moisture metres: We use moisture metres to measure a change in moisture level and identify anomalies inside wooden walls that can serve as an indicator of termite presence.
  • Thermal imaging: Our termite imaging detects heat through the floors and walls and identifies changes in heat patterns to trace termite nests.
  • Termite tapper: Termite tappers are sounding tools we use to see where a termite attack has occurred.
  • Torch: Our termite inspectors use a torch and flashlight to get under the house, walls, and around the yard.
  • Termatrac: Termatrac motion sensor detects termite movement through the tiles, brickwork, and walls.

What if termites are found?

If we discover termites during our inspection, the first step is to identify the termite species and the extent of the infestation. After identification, we will immediately spray the active termite nest with a termiticide – Termidor. Pro Pest Control Canberra is an accredited Termidor applicator.

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we spray live termites before recommending any other preventive

measures. If you detect termite presence on your own, don’t disturb them to avoid relocating to a new part of the house. Instead, call us. If spraying is not enough, we will recommend either a full termite treatment service.

Termite Treatment Services

At Pro Pest Control Canberra, we use termite barriers, termite baiting systems, and reticulation systems to control termites.

  • Physical termite barrier

We intall physical barriers during the renovation or construction of new buildings. Our physical termite barriers consist of sheets we lay over a slab before it is constructed. Since termites are subterranean creatures and enter the house mostly through the foundation, we block possible entryways in advance.

  • Chemical termite barrier

We use Termidor, an active chemical to prevent termite entry. Unlike physical barriers, we apply the termiticide under concrete or in the soil around the perimeter of a property. Termidor is the most effective non-repellent and odourless liquid termiticide for repelling and killing the entire termite colony. When termites cross the treated zones, they carry it back to their nest and infect every other termite via transfer effect.

  • Termite reticulation systems

We install reticulation systems in areas of your home where you want minimal disruption to the ground. For example, under the tiles, paving stones, and other places you don’t want to drill. The reticulation is just like the normal chemical barrier we apply in the soil. However, for a reticulation system, we dig trenches close to your property and run a network of hoses throughout the trenches. Then, we connect a high-pressure pump and evenly circulate Termidor throughout the trench. Unlike a normal chemical application, reticulation systems are easy to reuse and last longer.

  • Termite baiting system

We can also protect your property with highly effective termite baiting systems. Termite bait stations are monitoring stations that contain cellulose-filled baits. We will install a couple of Sentricon, Exterra, or Trelona bait stations around your property away from the structure and in places where termites can find them. However, we mix Termidor with the bait. When termites feed on the bait and transport it back to the nest, the slow-acting poison.
